Networks and Communities
|
Knowledge Sharing and Networking helps to connect people with information and knowledge such as comparative experiences, best practices, and expertise. At the UNDP Regional Centre in Colombo, we facilitate Knowledge Sharing and Networking through "Communities of Practice" or "Knowledge Networks".
"Knowledge Networks" or "Communities of Practice" are "people networks" in which members are connected through a common professional discipline or interest such as Gender Equality or advancing the Millennium Development Goals. Communities of Practice share information through mailgroups (electronic networks), workshops and other initiatives designed to promote peer interaction and mutual support. They function as professional communities in which members support and service each other helping them become a more valuable source of development knowledge and expertise.
The UNDP Regional Centre in Colombo currently hosts several Communities of Practice. The details are provided below: |

| MDG Community of Practice |
|
The AP-MDG-CoP is a network where MDG practitioners exchange knowledge and find partners, synergies, and solutions to reach the collective goal of achieving the MDGs. Although the Asia Pacific Region has made rapid progress towards many of the MDGs, not all countries are making sufficient progress and none are currently on track to meet all eight goals by 2015. In response to challenges faced by countries in the region, this joint initiative by UNDP Regional Centre in Colombo, UNESCAP, and ADB draws upon the collective knowledge, resources, and experience of practitioners working in the region.

| Trade Affinity Group |
|
The TAG has been operating as an online group to generate discussions and disseminate knowledge resources via email. It aspires to encourage debate and to tap expertise, mainly to augment members’ professional capacities on trade-related issues, through shared learning. The purpose of TAG is to build a community of people to facilitate the exchange of knowledge about trade-related issues. The overarching goals are to map the interconnections of trade activities to the achievement or impediment of poverty reduction, economic growth, gender equality, and overall well-being of people in the Asia-Pacific region.
If you wish to be part of this network of trade professionals, please email in your expressions of interest to the APTII team of RCC. |

| AP-HDNet |
|
The Asia Pacific Human Development Network (AP-HDNet) is a platform to exchange knowledge and views on human development. The Network is closely connected with the regional Asia Pacific Human Development Report initiative. It is a forum where stakeholders in the region can identify and suggest relevant themes for the Reports, as well as participate in guiding the direction of a Report once a theme has been selected (for corruption and human development see http://www.undprcc.lk/ext/crhdr/aphdnet.html).
In 2008 the discussion focussed on policy implications of the findings of the APHDR Tackling Corruption, Transforming Lives (http://www2.undprcc.lk/ext/HDRU/consolidate.php). From September 2008 to April 2009 the discussion took up issues related to gender equity for the upcoming APHDR on Gender (http://www2.undprcc.lk/ext/HDRU/e_discussion_gender.php). If you would like to join the AP-HDNet please send an email to asiapacific.aphdnet@undp.org.

| Gender Community of Practice |
|
The Asia-Pacific Gender CoP was launched in May 2006, and has been operating as an online capacity development forum in which the members can learn through sharing experiences and ideas. It is a safe space for UNDP development practitioners to exchange experiences in facilitating gender mainstreaming in the work of UNDP. In May 2008, the Asia-Pacific Gender CoP launched an on-line practice space (http://www.snap-undp.org) where the members can share and collectively work on documents and tools. The Asia-Pacific Gender CoP also organizes on-line events and discussions to which non-UNDP gender experts and practitioners are invited.
The Asia-Pacific Gender CoP will expand its composition to include non-UNDP gender practitioners, advocates and partners to the forum in 2008. |
